Please Note: This listing is for a RANDOM HAORI JACKET. You will not receive the one in the picture, but a random one from our stock.
Haori jackets are the perfect way to incorporate your love of Japanese culture, design, style, and fabrics into your everyday wardrobe. At Tangerine Mountain, we’re pretty famous for our spectacular haori jacket grab bags. Convention attendees can see pretty darn quickly that they’re a fabulous deal: an authentic, vintage Japanese kimono jacket that you can throw on over everything from jeans and a t-shirt to a button-down shirt and trousers or a dress, AND two extra surprises! They’re so popular, we just had to offer them on our online store.
Grab bags are $20 and up. The price determines the fabric of the haori jacket, as well as the elegance and formality of the piece. Prices are based on what we would charge for such a piece on our rack, minus our typical grab bag discount because we love our customers. Our haori jackets typically start at $30 on the rack, but here, you’re saving $10 on the jacket and getting two more small items free!
Haori jackets work sort of like a cardigan–no obi required. They remain open on the body but retain the traditional Japanese boxy drop sleeve. Think of them as kimono jackets–they’re sort of like the top portion of a kimono worn open. They’re inexpensive enough to give as gifts to those Japanese culture, anime, or manga fans in your life, or to incorporate into your own wardrobe. We won’t name names, but some of us have a couple dozen we wear routinely around town. They’re also great for cosplay, LARPing, live-action wargames, costuming, and of course, expanding your kimono collection.
The fabric contents vary. Everything from cotton to silk to rayon to wool to polyester to blends is possible. Each piece will be vintage; the vast majority will be from the Showa era (1926-1989) but it’s possible to get pieces that are a bit older or newer.
We have women’s and men’s haori grab bags. You’re free to choose whatever you wish. Our policy is, of course, that you know your body and your needs best, so please select whichever works for you. For reference: men’s haori are typically longer, are made with a wider fabric bolt (thus, wider shoulders), and plainer (Subtle patterns or pinstripes against a blue, brown, teal, or mustard background are pretty common; dragons all over the outside are, unfortunately, not.).
Surprises are typically Japanese cultural items, such as fans and chopsticks, or pop culture items, such as sticker sheets, phone or zipper charms, washi tape, or small toys/gachapon.
Take a chance on an inexpensive way to start or continue your haori kimono jacket collection!
Due to their vintage nature, all items are sold in an “as is” and “with all faults” condition. For more information, please see our Shipping & Terms page.
