Please Note: This listing is for a RANDOM KIMONO + OBI SET. You will not receive the one in the picture, but a random one from our stock.
We at Tangerine Mountain are famous for our kimono grab bags. We bring so many kimono and obi sets to our conventions, we just can’t put them all on the rack! And everyone likes a surprise, especially when that surprise is full of vintage-y awesomeness straight from Japan.
Each kimono grab bag contains one kimono and obi, and for women’s kimono sets, we even throw in a free sash to tie the kimono closed so can you get your obi tied! The pricing works the same as our well-loved convention pricing: you’re typically saving $10-20 off the rack price when you buy a grab bag.
Kimono grab bags are perfect for the kimono novice to the kitsuke master. They’re a great way to start or expand your collection without breaking the bank. They’re inexpensive enough to give as gifts to those Japanese culture, anime, or manga fans in your life, or to incorporate into your own kimono, cosplay, LARPing, live-action wargames, or costuming collection.
The fabric contents vary. Everything from cotton to silk to rayon to wool to polyester to blends is possible. Each piece will be vintage; the vast majority will be from the Showa era (1926-1989) but it’s possible to get pieces that are a bit older or newer.
The price determines the fabric of the kimono and obi, as well as the elegance and formality of the outfit. Prices are based on what we would charge for such a piece on our rack, minus our typical grab bag discount because we love our customers.
We have women’s and men’s kimono grab bags. You’re free to choose whatever you wish. Our policy is, of course, that you know your body and your needs best, so please select whichever works for you. For reference: men’s kimono are typically shorter, are made with a slightly wider fabric bolt (thus, wider shoulders), and plainer (Subtle patterns or pinstripes against a blue, brown, teal, or mustard background are pretty common; dragons all over the outside are, unfortunately, not.).
Kimono are relatively untailored garments, so please note that most kimono are roughly the same size. We have many ways of wearing kimono; please see our “How to Wear” section to see your options, especially if you’re not sure you’ll get closure in the front.
Because they’re grab bags, the surprise is the fun part. The photos in this listing are some examples of grab bag contents (the free sash is not always shown, but it will be included in women’s bags). Please understand that while the kimono and obi will coordinate with each other, the kimono/obi pair you will receive will be random.
Take a chance on an inexpensive way to start or continue your kimono collection!
Due to their vintage nature, all items are sold in an “as is” and “with all faults” condition. For more information, please see our Shipping & Terms page.
