Friends at @nandesukan! Join us for our panel toni Friends at @nandesukan! Join us for our panel tonight/Saturday on How Bootlegs Are Trying to Destroy the Anime Industry, and What You Can Do About It! 8:30-9:30pm!

People are actively working to destroy the entire anime industry as we know it, and they’re doing this by creating bootlegs. Bootlegs are unauthorized merchandise created to fool the end buyer that they’re purchasing an authorized piece of merchandise approved by the creator or the company the creator works with to license merchandise. Learn how to identify bootlegs, how bootlegs nearly killed the anime industry, how bootlegs hurt the creators who work so hard on their creations, and what you can do to help protect what we all love.

The panel lasts about 30-40 minutes, after which attendees can bring any piece of merchandise and the experts at Fast Food Anime and Tangerine Mountain will evaluate it to tell you if it is legit. Collectible cards, plush, books, video games, DVDs, CDs, posters, wall scrolls, figures, clothing, and more are all able to be evaluated. (To ensure everyone has a turn, if you have a large collection, please talk to the presenters about setting up an appointment.)

Fast Food Anime owner John Santellano is a 20-year veteran of the foreign and domestic video game sales industry, providing authentic video games, consoles, and anime merchandise to convention attendees and wholesale buyers throughout the country. His experiences in Japan have enhanced his knowledge of the broad range of authentic Japanese goods and how to identify them. Tangerine Mountain owners Cheri Santellano and Teri Noto have been educated about intellectual property at their father’s knee since they were little kids. Their father, Arthur Fakes, is an intellectual property and commercial negotiations expert, specializing in international and domestic copyright, trademark, trade secret, and commercial interests, with a particular focus on Japan and East Asia for the past 50 years.

Hey @nandesukan friends! Check out #TangerineMount Hey @nandesukan friends! Check out #TangerineMountain's Authentic Edo Era Samurai Armor: How It Was Made and Worn panel, happening in Spruce Room 1 today at 1 - 2:30pm!

Samurai warriors have long been celebrated as fearsome fighters and excellent strategists. Samurai armor is venerated among military historians, artists, game designers, and Japanese culture fans for generations. However, most people never get to see authentic armor up close, much less have the chance to look “under the hood” at its construction. Tangerine Mountain presents authentic Edo Period samurai armor from the Higuchi family, who served the venerated Sanada clan at Matsushiro Castle in present-day Nagano City. We will take you through the complete set, explaining each piece and how it was made and worn, comparing and contrasting Edo Period armor to that of earlier eras, giving attendees new insight and appreciation of iconic artifacts of samurai history.

Panel Length: 90 minutes

Please Note that all educational programming will take place within the Traveling Kimono Exhibition space, which will be located on the 1st level of the Gaylord Convention Center, Spruce Room 1, which is near the escalators/staircase. Hey friends @nandesukan! Our History of Kimono pan Hey friends @nandesukan! Our History of Kimono panel takes place from 11am to 12 today in Spruce Room 1!

Join Tangerine Mountain as we take you through a fun, funny, and informative romp through Japanese fashion history. You will learn the reason so many anime characters are dressed the way they are, because so many character designs and costumes in anime are based on historical clothing. From kosode to kimono, we tell you the stories of nobles, samurai, kabuki actors, and merchants; and how the underdogs of the Japanese class structure eventually became the most well-dressed members of society by the end of the Edo period.
